Great to meet you!

Hi! I'm Ramya. I am a trained psychotherapist and received my Master of Science in Advanced Clinical Social Work from Columbia University on a health, mental health, and disabilities track. I also have a Master of Science in Media, Medicine, and Health from Harvard Medical School.

I approach psychotherapy with a mix of active listening and observations creating a brave space where you can be sure you will be heard. Post graduation, I worked in a variety of settings with a diverse range of clients including those struggling with grief, complex family situations, and relationship struggles. I have a special interest in working with the South Asian and BIPOC population. I have significant experience working with all age groups ranging from kids 4+, adolescents, teens, and adults. I've worked with families, couples, and provided caregiver sessions.

My approach to therapy

I have specific training in: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Complicated/Prolonged Grief Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness and Trauma Informed practices. I gained experience and comfort working with those experiencing chronic and terminal illnesses during my internship (Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital) and fellowship (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center).

I am also familiar with Acceptance & Commitment therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy. I use a combination of evidence based modalities, and always make sure the treatment plan is personalized, and makes sense to you.

I have always been drawn to the stories of individuals- what makes us who we are. That innate curiosity along with my desire to help others, and to reduce mental health stigma inspired me to become a therapist. I hope to work with you!

What you can expect from me

I believe in creating a "brave" space rather than a "safe" space. I understand in the first session that we do not know each other. So, I hope to create a space where everyone feels brave enough to be authentically themselves, transparent, and honest. At times, I'll use a bit of humor, and we will slowly work towards building a rapport/positive therapeutic alliance. We will work together during the intake session to understand goals, history, and present concerns. Questions are encouraged and treatment planning will be introduced!
