Great to meet you!

Therapy with me is a space where you can be honest about what is happening in your life without feeling judged or expected to have everything figured out before you schedule your first session. I have experience working with individuals and families during some of the most difficult periods of their lives. Those experiences have taught me that people are often doing the best they can with the tools, experiences, and circumstances they have at the time. I believe therapy should be collaborative. I am not here to tell you how you should feel or simply give you advice. I want to understand your experiences, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and help you develop practical ways to cope, communicate, set boundaries, process difficult experiences, and move forward. I also believe that progress does not always look like feeling better immediately. Sometimes progress is understanding why you respond the way you do, recognizing a pattern, becoming more comfortable setting a boundary, learning to tolerate an uncomfortable emotion, or finally addressing something you have been avoiding. You do not have to come to therapy with a perfectly defined goal. We can figure that out together.

My approach to therapy

My approach is collaborative, person-centered, and trauma informed. I meet clients where they are while also helping them identify the changes they want to make. I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Your treatment should reflect your experiences, your goals, your strengths, and what is actually happening in your life. Depending on what you need, our work may include exploring past experiences, identifying patterns in thoughts and behaviors, developing healthier coping skills, working through grief or difficult emotions, improving communication and relationships, establishing boundaries, managing anxiety or depression, or building confidence in your ability to handle life’s challenges. You will not be reduced to a label or a diagnosis. I will be supportive, but I will also be honest with you. Therapy is not about simply telling you what you want to hear. It is about creating a safe environment where we can look at what is happening, understand it, and work toward meaningful change. Most importantly, I want therapy to be something we do together. You are the expert on your own life, my role is to help you better understand yourself and develop the tools to move forward.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. We will talk about what has been happening in your life, what you’re currently struggling with, and what you hope will be different as a result of therapy. I may ask questions about your history, relationships, stressors, coping strategies, and other areas that help me understand the bigger picture. We will also begin identifying goals for our work together. You do not need to have those goals perfectly figured out before our first session. Sometimes it takes a little time to understand what you need, and that’s okay. You are not expected to tell me everything in the first session. You control the pace and we can build your treatment plan together as I get to know you and understand what you need. If you remember nothing else you have read on my profile, please remember this: you are not the worst thing you have done, the hardest thing you have been through, or the worst version of yourself you have experienced.
