Great to meet you!

My name is Ranjana Srinivasan and I am a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in both New York and New Jersey. I obtained my doctorate in Counseling Psychology at Columbia University and currently work within the New York City hospital network. I have extensive experience working with a wide range of diverse populations and clinical presentations. I have obtained specialized training in addressing various symptomatology including but not limited to identity based and event based trauma, depression, anxiety, body image and postpartum transitions. I work with individuals to assist them in building insight that will help them get closer to their clinical goals.

My approach to therapy

As a music therapist and ongoing musician, I have consistently been drawn to the art of helping people connect to their inner voice. Through a psychodynamic approach, I focus on building rapport and trust at the onset of treatment to have a firm foundation as we approach important topics that could be more vulnerable to process along the way. I come from a strengths based approach where I prioritize being collaborative in what and how we discuss topics, while also emphasizing my client's resilience, personal resources and inner strengths to overcome any challenges they may meet. Prior and current clients have described me as "softly challenging" as I strive to push you to grow and change while simultaneously supporting and caring for you. Additionally I make a point to emphasize cultural and identity based factors that may be important to address when thinking about your clinical presentation and utilizing that information to assist us in gaining additional insight. I have a true passion for this work which I think shines through in my connection with my clients.

What you can expect from me

If interested in working with me, we will begin with a free 15-minute phone or video consultation. During this initial conversation, I will explore your reasons for seeking therapy and ways you feel my approach may help you achieve your therapy goals. At the end of the conversation, if we feel that we are ready to proceed into the therapeutic work, I will discuss logistics with you (e.g., scheduling, billing, and my practice policies). We can then schedule our first appointment where I can begin to obtain additional background information about you and we can collaboratively develop clinical goals for us to work towards. Therapy sessions will be mostly unstructured so that I can meet you where you are at based on the occurrences of the week and what feels most prominent to discuss at that time.
