I am a licensed clinical social work psychotherapist and have worked in clinical mental health services since 1983 and prior to my LCSW license worked in the field of substance abuse and addiction. My work included direct clinical work with clients providing individual, group and family psychotherapy as well as clinical supervision and management of inpatient psychiatric services.
We live in a world of noise. Seems like everything demands our focus and attention. And then, there is the internal noise, sometimes pleasant sometimes dreadful, fearful and anxiety provoking. Sometimes our thoughts or what I refer to as our internal dialogue vies for our attention to such an extent that we feel that we have lost our ability to make decisions or move forward with our day. It is a good idea to periodically take a moment, step back and ask yourself: “where am I, what am thinking”. I experience great joy and satisfaction when my clients experience that insightful moment; that realization that their thoughts do not define them. This insight leads to a sense of power and control over your life.
I am an active listener. I work hard to understand the person in front of me and their very unique life and circumstances. Understanding your thoughts, your feelings your strengths your goals and your challenges is the focus of my attention. Goal setting is an essential factor in treatment and I will work with you to assess and determine the direction we will take and set the goals of treatment
