Great to meet you!

At MyTherapist DC you will receive a free consultation to provide increased knowledge of therapist, build therapeutic rapport, and enhance a joint understanding of the treatment goals. Together we will explore your strengths to overcome your challenges. Every session begins with a reminder of your treatment goals, weekly update, review of last week's homework, processing current symptoms and learning a new intervention, summary of the session, and new homework. I use current events, research based data, assessments, guided meditation, and etc. to track progress from one week to the next week. My clients have expressed that the most enjoyable aspect of therapy is the connecting of meaningful childhood experience to the current self.

My approach to therapy

I became a therapist in 2007 when I graduated from Howard University, MEd in Counseling program, then I later received my PhD in Counseling Psychology. I have worked in numerous settings including government, hospital, non-profit, & educational. I specialize in Attachment, Addiction, and Grief & Loss. We will all experience my type of loss (loss of love, job, sense of self, etc.) & how we cope with loss will determine success in life. Trauma, depression, anxiety, and addiction, all create loss of time, opportunity, confidence, etc. We will work together to heal wounds of loss, repair relationships, and explore a new you with wisdom and grace. At MyTherapist DC, traditional short & long-term therapy is tailored to meet your needs.

What you can expect from me

At MyTherapist DC you will receive treatment goal focused sessions that build on the previous sessions gradually learning healthy internal validation and behavioral coping skills. Together will we learn how childhood experiences, impact past traumas, and influence current understanding of the present and future goals. Each session begins with a warm-up of how your week is going and a check-in on your mental health symptoms. Then there is a review of your homework (coping skills) from the previous session. Homework may include practicing positive self-talk, an assessment, conflict-resolution, etc. We explore your understanding of self and others through a holistic approach using traditional therapeutic modalities including, CBT, Psychodynamic, and Client-Centered Therapies. The session ends with a summary of the session and new homework is assigned. Throughout the session you will receive validation, assurance, and strength-based perspectives. At MyTherapist DC we will journey together at your pace to enhance balance, peace, and well-being in your life.
