Great to meet you!

I’m Richard Unite (they/them), LCSW, and I practice in NYC. I earned my social work degree from Columbia University and have nearly seven years of experience supporting queer and transgender individuals across diverse care settings. My work is rooted in affirmation, curiosity, and compassion. I believe therapy should feel approachable, collaborative, and tailored to each person’s unique experiences and goals.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy should feel supportive, collaborative, and centered around what matters most to you. My approach is strengths-based and trauma-informed, helping you build on the qualities that have carried you through challenges while exploring new ways to grow. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I draw from different therapy styles, including IFS, CBT, DBT, ACT, MI, and EFT, to fit your needs and goals. Together, we'll create a space where you can better understand yourself and move toward the life you want.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a foundation for our work together. We'll explore what brings you to therapy, discuss your goals, and talk about what you would like support with moving forward. I strive to create a warm, collaborative space where trust can develop at your own pace. We'll also discuss what works for you, what doesn't, and how we can tailor therapy to fit your unique needs and preferences.
