Great to meet you!

You may have spent years handling things on your own, only to realize that the strategies that once helped you cope are no longer working. Anxiety may keep your mind constantly active, depression can drain your motivation, trauma may continue influencing how you respond to the present, or you may be struggling with pressures that are difficult to talk about with the people around you. I’m a psychologist with 35 years of experience providing individual therapy for adults and seniors in Texas, both virtually and in person in Plano. My primary areas of focus include anxiety, depression, men’s issues, trauma, and PTSD, with additional support for family concerns, chronic health conditions, stress management, and cultural and ethnic issues when they intersect with your primary challenges. My goal is not simply to help you feel better in the moment, but to understand what is driving your struggles so you can make meaningful changes and regain a greater sense of balance in your life.

My approach to therapy

I’m an interactive therapist, so our sessions won’t consist of me simply sitting back while you do all the talking. We’ll look closely at what you’re experiencing, clarify the concerns that matter most, and explore the thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experiences that may be keeping certain patterns in place. Anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, or concerns related to men’s mental health may initially bring you to therapy, while chronic health conditions, family difficulties, cultural experiences, or ongoing stress can add important context to what you’re experiencing. We’ll make those connections without losing sight of why you came to therapy in the first place. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate Positive Psychology to build on existing strengths, Narrative Therapy to examine the stories shaping how you see yourself, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy to change your relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions, Interpersonal Psychotherapy to address relationship patterns, and Exposure Response Prevention when gradually confronting fears and changing avoidance patterns can help you move forward.

What you can expect from me

Before we decide what needs to change, I want to understand the bigger picture of your life right now. During our first few sessions, we’ll talk about who you are, what brought you to therapy at this particular point, what you’ve already tried, and what you hope will be different. From there, we’ll establish goals together and determine an approach that makes sense for you rather than forcing your experience into a predetermined formula. You can expect me to be warm and open minded while also asking thoughtful questions, offering perspective, and challenging you when it can help deepen your understanding or create change. Progress may mean feeling less controlled by anxiety or past trauma, experiencing greater emotional balance, responding to stress differently, navigating relationships more effectively, or simply understanding yourself with greater clarity. After 35 years of doing this work, I still believe meaningful change begins by understanding the person in front of me, not just the problem that brought them through the door.
