Great to meet you!

Rishma Kaur is a dual board-certified Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of experience providing expert mental health care to adolescents and adults ages 15 and older. She has worked in diverse clinical settings including hospitals, inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, detox programs, residential treatment centers, and PHP/IOP programs. Through this experience, she has treated complex mood disorders, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Her broad clinical background allows her to understand each patient’s unique challenges and develop thoughtful, individualized treatment plans.

Rishma founded her clinic with a clear mission: to create a safe, welcoming outpatient environment where patients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their care. She takes a whole-person approach to treatment, addressing not only psychiatric symptoms but also key lifestyle and wellness factors such as sleep, nutrition, stress management, and daily routines. Her care includes comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, evidence-based medication management, and therapy collaboration when appropriate — all designed to support both immediate symptom relief and long-term stability.

Known for her compassionate and collaborative style, Rishma prioritizes careful, thoughtful prescribing and personalized care. Whether supporting adolescents navigating academic and social pressures or adults managing complex psychiatric and substance-related challenges, she focuses on sustainable recovery, resilience, and meaningful mental wellness.

Rishma welcomes new patients across Florida who are seeking professional, patient-centered psychiatric care grounded in empathy, expertise, and lasting results.

My approach to therapy

My approach to providing care is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized. I believe mental health treatment works best when patients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in decisions about their care. From our first appointment, I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, openness, and clinical expertise.

I take a whole-person approach, recognizing that mental health is influenced by biological, psychological, and lifestyle factors. In addition to addressing symptoms such as anxiety, depression, mood instability, or trauma-related concerns, I also explore sleep patterns, stress levels, nutrition, daily routines, and environmental stressors. This comprehensive perspective allows me to create treatment plans that are both practical and sustainable.

My style is thoughtful and evidence-based. I prioritize careful medication management when appropriate, taking time to explain options, benefits, and potential side effects so patients can make informed decisions. I also value therapy integration and often collaborate with therapists to ensure cohesive, well-rounded care.

I specialize in treating adolescents and adults experiencing mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, and co-occurring substance use disorders. I have extensive experience working with individuals transitioning from higher levels of care such as inpatient, residential, and PHP/IOP programs, helping them maintain stability and build resilience in outpatient settings.

Above all, my goal is not just symptom reduction, but helping each patient achieve long-term stability, improved functioning, and meaningful emotional well-being.

What you can expect from me

During the first session, clients can expect a thorough, structured, and supportive experience designed to help me fully understand their concerns and goals. I begin by reviewing current symptoms, psychiatric history, medical background, prior treatments, and any significant life stressors. This comprehensive evaluation allows me to develop a clear clinical picture while also giving clients the opportunity to share their story in a safe, nonjudgmental space.

I strive to create an environment that feels calm, respectful, and collaborative. Many people feel nervous before their first appointment, so I take time to answer questions, clarify the evaluation process, and ensure clients feel comfortable and heard. My goal is for each person to leave the session feeling understood and reassured that there is a thoughtful plan moving forward.

By the end of the first visit, clients can expect a preliminary diagnosis (if appropriate), an individualized treatment plan, and a clear discussion of next steps. This may include medication recommendations, lifestyle adjustments, therapy referrals or coordination, and measurable short- and long-term goals. Together, we establish realistic objectives focused on symptom reduction, improved daily functioning, and long-term emotional stability.

Above all, the first session is about building trust and creating a strong foundation for ongoing care. Clients should leave with clarity, direction, and confidence that they are supported in their mental health journey.
