Great to meet you!

Professor Robert Douglas is a psychotherapist with over six years of experience treating adults and couples. He is a Marriage and Family Therapist and also a Licensed Professional Counselor. He holds a master’s in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) doctoral degree in counseling psychology.

My approach to therapy

Working with me begins with a warm, collaborative intake where we explore your goals, history, and what’s bringing you to therapy now. I create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can be yourself, and we move at a pace that feels right for you. Progress may look like gaining insight, building healthier patterns, or feeling more grounded and empowered in your life. I work best with adults and couples navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and personality dynamics. I value honesty, curiosity, and openness in the therapy process, and I tailor my approach to meet your unique needs with compassion and intention.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, clients can expect a warm, collaborative environment grounded in respect, curiosity, and clinical rigor. My goal is to create a space where individuals feel safe to share their story, ask questions, and begin clarifying their goals for care. I approach each session with a strengths-based lens, honoring cultural context, individual variability, and the unique ways people make sense of their experiences.

We typically begin by reviewing relevant background information, discussing current concerns, and identifying what feels most important to address. If assessment is part of the process, I explain the tools we’ll use—whether cognitive, emotional, or behavioral—and how they inform treatment planning. I emphasize transparency, informed consent, and shared decision-making throughout.

By the end of the first session, clients often leave with a clearer understanding of the therapeutic process, a sense of direction, and the reassurance that their care will be tailored to their needs—whether that involves ongoing therapy, targeted assessment, or consultation. My aim is to ensure every client feels seen, heard, and supported from the very beginning.
