Great to meet you!

I’m Dr. Robert McGarvey, a Clinical Psychologist licensed in Texas with Bluefield Psychological Services, PLLC. I am located in SETX but I provide psychotherapy via telehealth for adults in Texas. I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University in La Mirada, California. My time there provided excellent training in both theology and psychological matters and I have a profound appreciation for how human beings are beautifully complex. I have a primary interest in treating depression, anxiety, trauma-related concerns, relational difficulties, attention challenges, men’s issues, infertility, and Christian Spiritual Integration.

My approach to therapy

Allow me to clarify what I mean by Christian Spiritual Integration. It is an approach to therapy that thoughtfully integrates Christian faith with evidence-based psychological care. Spiritual Integration with Psychology at Bluefield Psychological Services views each person as created in the image of God, designed for relationship with God, yourself, and others. We recognize that human suffering and psychological distress arise from a complex interaction of cultural, biological, emotional, relational, spiritual, and life experiences, including trauma, loss, and brokenness. Therapy acknowledges both human vulnerability and human dignity.

Healing involves more than just symptom relief; it includes growth in awareness, meaning, character, and connection with God, self, and others. Psychological science provides valuable tools for understanding thoughts, emotions, attachment, and behavior, while Christian faith offers a deeper framework for purpose, hope, and restoration. When clients desire, faith can be thoughtfully integrated into the therapeutic process in a respectful and clinically sound way. The client gets to determine within their treatment goals how much or if at all to include Spiritual Integration.

Therapy is a collaborative and relational process—walking alongside clients toward greater wholeness, truth, and emotional health, while honoring Christian values, beliefs, and your personal journey.

What you can expect from me

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin understanding what discomfort, pain, or challenges have brought you to seek therapy at this time. Together, we will explore the symptoms and experiences you may be facing, as well as the role they may be playing in your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and daily life.

This initial session also allows us to collaboratively discuss what treatment and growth could look like moving forward. Depending on your needs and preferences, this process may include conversation, reflection, and occasionally questionnaires to help guide our understanding and treatment planning.
