Great to meet you!

Robert Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor, who obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Ethnic Studies at Sacramento State University before relocating to Georgia to earn his Master's of Science degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology from Clayton State University. He is available for telehealth sessions, ages 15 and older. Robert’s focus areas include working with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, ADHD, emotional regulation, grief, and cultural diversity issues, for individuals, as well as couples.

Robert brings the perspective of someone who has walked a path of resilience. Therapy can be a transformative space where you’re free to be your authentic self, share your story, and take steps toward growth without judgment. Raised by a single parent battling substance addiction, He understands firsthand the challenges of navigating life when the odds feel stacked against you. These experiences shaped his commitment to helping others overcome barriers and discover their strengths. In his free time, he enjoys playing the bass guitar.

My approach to therapy

As an agent for change, transforming the stigma of therapy is very important to me. I bring years of personal and professional experience to counseling. I have experienced people from many diverse backgrounds, cultures, and belief systems. My approach to counseling, using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) recognizes and respects the uniqueness of every individual I work with, within a safe, non-judgmental environment. My goal is to have the client be better than they were yesterday, for themselves, their families, and their community in discussing anxiety, depression, or the stressors of life, whatever that looks like.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is a period for getting to know each other, discussing symptoms and history. Future visits will be more therapeutic in nature, focusing on specific symptoms or problems. I will discuss the session's purpose, confidentiality, legal exceptions, and goal setting.
