Great to meet you!

I started my journey to clinical social work with a BA in International Studies at the University of Oklahoma, which gives me unique insight into the large scale social and geopolitical forces impacting us as individuals. After completing my undergrad I worked with community members, parents, children and school districts to increase school garden access, access to healthy food and taught trauma-informed environmental and nutrition education to children and adults. I have also been involved in LGBTQ and social justice activism since 2009.

All of my work has focused on the individual and their interactions with macro level factors, which has given me strong person-in-environment lens. When you come to me for therapy, you can assume that I don't "just think it's all in your head."

Since making the choice to pursue my MSW at Boston University, I have gained years of experience and specialized training working with survivors of trauma, including immigrants and refugees, members of the LGBTQ community, survivors of torture, human trafficking, domestic violence, and developmental trauma. I focus on the treatment of trauma related problems and diagnoses including: PTSD, and complex trauma, difficulties with interpersonal relationships, acculturation issues, adjustment disorders, anxiety, depression, identity issues, physical and sleep issues related to trauma, and trauma-related memory issues and intrusive thoughts.

While I have primarily focused my work on immigrants and refugees and the LGBTQ Community, the unifying factor with all of my clients is that they have overcome immense obstacles and gone through major life transitions. I am open to working with anyone that fits that description regardless of their identities.

A bit about my approach to therapy

Over the past 5 years I have built on my commitment to further social justice as a clinical social worker by cultivating a therapeutic approach that incorporates several evidenced-based therapeutic modalities that aim to center my client's experiences and facilitate healing and building resilience. I use modalities such as Liberation Health Social Work, Narrative Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, Existential Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic, and behavioral approaches in an eclectic way to meet my clients where they are and facilitate healing and trauma processing in a way that honors their right to self-determination and centers them as the experts on their own lives. I also use an adaptive and collaborative approach to treatment planning that ensures you are in charge of your own care.

What you can expect from our first session

My goal is for clients to walk away from each session feeling that something within them that was stuck before has made some movement. Overtime my clients report a reduction in stress and reactivity to the big and little stressors of everyday life as well as improved relationships and a greater capacity to move on from emotional pain. I also provide therapy with the hope that you will be able to heal from past trauma and develop greater resilience to future traumas.

We can't forget or erase the past or hide from future pain, but we can always integrate those pains of the past into our life story and use those experiences to make us wiser and more resilient through post-traumatic growth.
