Great to meet you!

Dr. Robin Fatovic McDermott is a Florida Licensed Psychologist who provides comprehensive and individualized care. She modeled her training after her desire to provide integrated services. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology from Fordham University in the Bronx, New York, prior to working in radiology and neuropsychological cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

She then earned her Master’s degree in Psychology and Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. She completed her clinical internship at the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center in Miami, Florida, where she conducted comprehensive psychological assessments, intensive outpatient therapy, bedside therapy for physical rehabilitation, psychosocial and substance abuse rehabilitation, and law enforcement outreach.

She completed her post-doctoral residency in a Southwest Florida private practice setting, where she provided individual therapy, couples therapy, and psychodiagnostic assessment. She has experience working with first responders and their families.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Fatovic has experience working with a wide range of situations in therapy, such as life adjustments, stress/emotion management, communication, trauma, chronic medical condition management, grief/loss, and other struggles. She works with diverse adult populations, including first responders, veterans, college students, medical personnel, and other professionals. She is an integrative psychologist who incorporates theories and techniques from different practices, including but not limited to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Existentialism, Solution-Focused Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and other trauma-informed therapies.

What you can expect from me

As each person is unique and complex, Dr. McDermott works with individuals and couples in therapy to identify goals and collaboratively establish a treatment plan tailored to one’s needs and personality style. She first gathers a comprehensive background history to better understand the elements that make up the whole person. Her approach often includes exploring the mind-body connection to explain why certain thought patterns or symptoms arise while teaching skills to manage unhelpful physical reactions, thoughts, behaviors, or habits. Her approach also tends to focus on one’s humanness and personal values; when creating meaning around behavioral changes in service of these values, one can feel more motivated to make changes, process past difficulties, and live a more fulfilled life all around.
