Great to meet you!

I recently published my book, Promise Yourself: Lessons from a Front Porch Swing, a book inspired by the lessons my grandmother left me in a handwritten note. I took those simple but meaningful lessons and blended them with principles of positive psychology to create a book focused on finding hope, building resilience, and creating a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

The book is both a tribute to my grandmother and an extension of the work I do with my clients. Many of the ideas I explore in the book are the same principles I incorporate into therapy—helping people recognize their strengths, navigate difficult life transitions, challenge negative patterns of thinking, and move toward greater purpose and well-being.

If you would like to learn more about my background, experience, and approach to therapy, you can visit my website at roger.corbinmsw. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I look forward to meeting you and learning how I can support you on your journey.

My approach to therapy

I take a client-centered, collaborative approach to therapy, recognizing that each person brings a unique story, life experience, strengths, and challenges. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can be heard without judgment and feel comfortable being yourself.

I draw primarily from positive psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing practical tools for meaningful and lasting change. I believe therapy should focus not only on what is difficult or not working, but also on identifying your strengths, building resilience, finding purpose, and creating a greater sense of well-being.

Together, we will develop an approach that fits your individual needs and goals. My aim is to help you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and balance while strengthening your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, establish a comfortable and supportive relationship, and begin understanding what brings you to therapy. There is no expectation that you have everything figured out before we meet.

We will talk about the concerns or challenges you are experiencing, what you would like to change, and what you hope to gain from therapy. We will also explore your personal history, strengths, support system, and the resources you already have available to you.

As we get to know one another, we will begin identifying goals that are meaningful to you and discuss an initial direction for our work together. My approach is collaborative, so your voice and perspective are an important part of determining where we go from there.

Most importantly, the first session is a starting point—a chance to feel heard, understood, and supported as we begin developing a path forward that fits your needs and goals.
