Great to meet you!

I have been counseling for twenty years, starting with crisis counseling and case management when I finished my Bachelor's degree in 2006. I completed my Master's degree in Counseling at Dallas Baptist University in 2010 and have been working in a private practice setting since then. My practice up until the pandemic was about one third children (Play therapy and behavioral/parenting coaching), one third teens, and one third adults. Since the pandemic I have focused in on treating adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and grief.

My approach to therapy

I practice from a client-centered perspective, focusing on what client's need at the time. Usually, this involves coming up with a coping skills plan, working on emotional expression and boundaries, anger management, self-esteem, and family of origin issues. The goal is to learn skills to improve interpersonal relationships to access healthy support from family and friends, as well as improving the relationship with yourself by optimizing boundaries. This utilizes techniques of CBT and DBT modalities from a psychodynamic theoretical approach.

What you can expect from me

In a first session, clients will be guided through coming up with goals for counseling and identification of what issues, behaviors, symptoms, and boundary difficulties are causing distress in the client's life. In the first session, clients get a clear picture of what counseling looks and feels like, because having a safe place to address issues are foundational for counseling to be beneficial.
