Great to meet you!

Welcome! I commend you for taking the first and hardest step towards making a change in your life. As a licensed mental health counselor with almost a decade of providing support and counseling to individuals and groups, I have had the privilege of witnessing the therapeutic power of listening, understanding, empathy, acceptance, and trust. Although each person's problems, goals, and process will be different, I believe that these elements are essential in creating a therapeutic alliance that each client can use for his/her own personal growth.

As Carl Rogers stated, “In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?”

My approach to therapy

Therapy is a unique, collaborative relationship between a client and therapist, and I will work to create a safe and trusting space for you that is based on respect, genuine interest, empathy, and acceptance. I have an honest and direct approach that may, on occasion, include challenging, confronting, or pushing you in a caring manner. I typically blend elements from different therapeutic approaches and tailor treatment according to each client's needs.

What you can expect from me

Although some change occurs quickly and easily, more often, change requires slow, deliberate, and repeated efforts, both in and out of sessions. Sessions may focus on gaining greater self-awareness, problem-solving, reflecting on unexplored feelings, working through resistance, attending to unresolved issues of the past, breaking down barriers and defenses, building coping or communication skills, or taking healthy risks. Regardless of what brings you to therapy, one of my goals for clients is to leave each session feeling heard, understood, and supported. Ultimately, I hope to help you recognize your own strengths and brilliance and help you heal, grow, and reach your potential.
