Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Ruth, and I provide online counseling to clients throughout Alabama, as well as in-person services in Gulf Shores. I work with individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, grief, stress, and life transitions, especially when life feels heavier than it looks on the outside.

My approach is warm, real, and grounded in both clinical training and lived experience. I’ve walked through very dark seasons in my own life, and that shapes how I show up in the therapy room with deep compassion, honesty, and a genuine understanding that healing is not always linear or easy.

In our work together, I don’t just listen, I help you make sense of what you’re feeling, understand what’s happening in your mind and body, and build practical tools you can actually use in your day-to-day life. I also gently support you in getting to the deeper roots of what’s been keeping you stuck, so healing can be real and lasting.

Clients often tell me they feel safe, seen, and not judged. My goal is to help you feel more steady, more connected to yourself, and more hopeful about your life again, one step at a time.

My approach to therapy

I work with individuals of all ages and stages of life, offering one-on-one counseling, family counseling, and marriage counseling tailored to your unique needs. My approach is warm, grounded, and practical. I believe therapy should be a safe place where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered to grow at their own pace.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a highly researched and effective therapy that helps the brain and body process difficult or traumatic experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming. EMDR can be life-changing for those struggling with anxiety, trauma, grief, panic, or lingering emotional wounds. It allows healing at a deeper level — not just coping, but true renewal.

My counseling style combines compassion with practical tools that clients can use in everyday life. I draw from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, trauma-informed care, and nervous system regulation techniques to help clients better understand themselves, improve emotional regulation, strengthen relationships, and build healthier patterns.

I believe healing happens through connection, honesty, and consistency. My goal is to help clients feel safe enough to process difficult experiences, discover their strengths, and move toward lasting healing, confidence, and emotional wellness.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect their first session to be a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free space where they can begin sharing their story at their own pace. During our initial session, we will discuss current concerns, emotional challenges, personal history, strengths, goals for counseling, and what the client hopes to gain from therapy. I also take time to understand how stress, relationships, past experiences, and daily life may be impacting overall well-being.

The first session is focused on building trust, creating comfort, and developing a clear understanding of the client’s needs. Together, we will begin identifying treatment goals, healthy coping strategies, and practical next steps toward healing, emotional regulation, personal growth, and improved quality of life. Clients can expect compassion, professionalism, collaboration, and support as we create a plan tailored to their unique journey.
