Great to meet you!

Ryan Bufton, LCSW, is a compassionate psychotherapist who works with adults navigating trauma, depression, mood disorders, substance use concerns, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, and other mental health challenges. Ryan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work.

Ryan’s clinical focus includes trauma and relationships, with an emphasis on helping clients better understand how past experiences may be impacting their current emotional well-being, patterns of connection, and sense of self. He believes that healing begins with understanding that mental health struggles are not simply about “what is wrong” with a person, but often about what they have experienced and how they have learned to survive.

In addition to providing counseling services, Ryan also offers clinical supervision for Therapists-in-Training.

My approach to therapy

Ryan’s approach to therapy is compassionate, trauma-informed, and clinically grounded. He works collaboratively with clients to explore the connection between past experiences, current symptoms, relationship patterns, and self-esteem. His goal is to create a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where clients can process difficult experiences, build insight, develop healthier coping strategies, and move toward more fulfilling relationships.

Ryan supports clients in identifying patterns that may be contributing to emotional distress, relational conflict, substance use, or feelings of disconnection. Through a caring and nonjudgmental approach, he helps clients strengthen self-awareness, improve emotional regulation, and work toward meaningful, sustainable change.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, clients can expect a welcoming, respectful, and supportive space to begin sharing what brings them to therapy. Ryan will take time to learn about the client’s current concerns, personal history, symptoms, relationship experiences, strengths, and goals for treatment.

The first session is also an opportunity for clients to ask questions, discuss what they hope to gain from therapy, and determine whether the therapeutic relationship feels like a good fit. Ryan understands that beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, and he strives to help clients feel heard, understood, and supported from the start.

Clients can expect therapy with Ryan to be collaborative, compassionate, and focused on helping them improve their mental wellness, strengthen relationships, and develop a healthier sense of self.
