Great to meet you!

I started out working in college sports as a trainer and eventually began consulting with athletes and coaches after graduate school. My career path later took me through 10 years with an ambulance service, 2 years as a community service officer and 4 years as a crisis counselor embedded with a police department. I've also spent a considerable amount of time teaching psychology as a college professor. Because of this rather unique skill set, I have a heart for athletes, rescue workers and students.

My approach to therapy

I tend to take a somewhat laid back, somewhat structured approach to counseling sessions. Sometimes the professor in me comes out and I like to explain and teach about issues and conditions. I like to balance talking about the "whys" (why someone feels a certain way or why you or someone else might act a certain way),but eventually, we have to get down to the "what's" (what happened, what was your contribution, what was the response, what needs to happen now)?

What you can expect from me

The first session is the "getting to know you" session. There are a lot of questions for medical/heath history, but I also want to hear your story so I can better understand why you would want to come to counseling and talk to me.
