Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Samantha Desruisseaux—but please, call me Sam.

I have lived in Arizona my whole life and am proud to serve my local community as a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). My path in healthcare has been defined by steady growth and a deep dedication to my patients. I began my career in the high-intensity environment of the Emergency Room as an LPN before transitioning into a Registered Nurse role. I earned my Associate's in Nursing (RN) in 2020 , followed by my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 2021 , and ultimately completed my Master's degree to specialize in mental health. Outside of my practice, I am a proud mom to two daughters, which keeps me grounded and deeply connected to the challenges and joys of family life.

If you are looking for a practitioner who balances meticulous clinical judgment with a warm, down-to-earth personality, I would love to partner with you. I am dedicated to helping you find true diagnostic clarity and the practical tools you need to thrive.

I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your journey to mental wellness!

My approach to therapy

Having spent the majority of my career working as a Charge and Staff RN in the Emergency Room, I bring a unique sense of calm, stability, and reassurance to my psychiatric practice. The ER taught me how to remain steady under pressure and how to listen deeply when people are at their most vulnerable.

When you work with me, you can expect an environment that is:

  • Collaborative & Empathetic: You are the expert on your own life. We will work as a team to explore what you are experiencing and build a path forward together.
  • Holistic & Evidence-Based: I look at the big picture—integrating your physical health, lifestyle, and history to create a personalized care plan.
  • Safe & Non-Judgmental: Whether we are discussing medication options or navigating therapeutic strategies, my goal is to provide a space where you feel entirely supported and heard.

What you can expect from me

When you step into your first session with me, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and entirely non-judgmental environment. Your first appointment is truly a collaborative starting point where we get to know each other and lay the groundwork for your care.

Here is exactly what you can expect during our initial time together:

  • A Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment: We will begin with a thorough diagnostic assessment. This means taking the time to fully explore your current symptoms, your mental health history, and what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past.
  • A Holistic View of Your Health: Drawing from my extensive background in emergency and physical healthcare, I don't look at mental health in a vacuum. We will look at the big picture—including your physical well-being, lifestyle, and medical history—to ensure we aren't missing any piece of the puzzle.
  • A Steady, Reassuring Space: It is completely normal to feel nervous before your first visit. My years as an Emergency Room RN have taught me how to bring a sense of calm, stability, and deep safety to high-stakes or overwhelming situations. You can share your story at your own pace.
  • Collaborative Goal Setting: You are the expert on your own life. Together, we will discuss your personal goals and what outcomes you want to achieve.
  • An Initial Roadmap: Before you leave, we will collaborate on an initial, individualized treatment plan. This may involve discussing a combination of therapeutic modalities (such as CBT, DBT, or EMDR) and safe, evidence-based medication management tailored specifically to you.

Ultimately, your first session is about building trust, establishing true diagnostic clarity, and ensuring you leave with a clear, supportive path forward.
