Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Sam Lawson, and I'm a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). I specialize in supporting women and parents through the emotional and mental health challenges that can arise during pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, and other reproductive and hormonal transitions.

I bring more than a decade of experience in women’s health and have cared for families through pregnancy and birth. As a midwife, I attended more than 800 births, experiences that deepened my understanding of the profound physical, emotional, and identity changes that can accompany becoming a parent and moving through different stages of life.

My interest in mental health grew from seeing firsthand how closely emotional well-being is connected to reproductive and hormonal health. I have completed specialized training and certification in perinatal mental health, reproductive & integrative psychiatry, and menopause care.

My approach to therapy

My approach to mental healthcare is informed by my background as a midwife: warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I believe you deserve to feel heard and understood—not simply treated for a diagnosis. Together, we can explore what you’re experiencing, identify what may be contributing to it, and develop a treatment plan that fits your needs, values, and goals.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, overwhelm, changes in mood, or simply don’t feel like yourself, you don’t have to navigate these experiences alone. My goal is to create a supportive, judgment-free space where we can work together toward greater stability, understanding, and well-being.

What you can expect from me

Our first session together will be 90 minutes, and we’ll spend this time reviewing your mental health history, understanding your current symptoms and developing a plan of care. We’ll be sure to explore your priorities, address any concerns you may have and set some goals for our time together.

Follow-up appointments are 30-60 minutes and will include medication management and supportive psychotherapy. The frequency of follow-up appointments is individualized and can range anywhere from weekly to once every three months, depending on how you’re doing.

For folks who are pregnant, I offer a 1-hour postpartum planning session where you, your primary support person and I work together to identify potential challenges in the postpartum period and craft a plan to help everyone thrive through this period of transition.
