Great to meet you!

My name is Samantha Midulla, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Connecticut. I earned my master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and have over 18 years of experience providing psychotherapy to adolescents, adults, and families.

I specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, adjustment-related concerns, relationship challenges, career and work-related stress, life transitions, school related stressors, sports anxiety and sports confidence. I also have extensive experience supporting parents raising children with and without disabilities, helping them navigate stress, advocacy, and balance.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach is collaborative, practical, and individualized. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based techniques, and incorporate components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy. Treatment is always tailored to meet your specific needs, strengths, and goals.

I view therapy as a team effort. Together, we work on building resilience, strengthening coping skills, and helping you feel more confident in facing life’s challenges. You can expect thoughtful assessments at the beginning of therapy and periodic check-ins throughout treatment to monitor progress and ensure therapy remains effective and meaningful.

My approach is generally short-term and solution-focused, with the primary goal of helping you develop skills you can apply independently in your daily life. At the same time, I value the importance of maintaining a long-term supportive therapeutic relationship and am available for ongoing or periodic check-ins as you move through different stages of treatment.

Seeking therapy is a meaningful step, and I strive to create a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another in a supportive and comfortable environment. We will talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you are currently experiencing, and what goals you would like to work on. This session is collaborative and paced to ensure you feel heard and understood.

I will also take time to explain what therapy with me typically looks like, including how sessions are structured, how we track progress, and what you can expect from our work together. Setting clear expectations early helps create a strong foundation and ensures therapy feels purposeful and effective.

You may be asked some assessment-based questions, especially during the initial sessions, to better understand your concerns and strengths. These help guide treatment and allow us to develop a plan that is tailored to your needs.

Most importantly, the first session is a space for you to ask questions, share what you feel comfortable sharing, and determine whether this feels like a good therapeutic fit. Therapy is a partnership, and my goal is to create a safe, respectful space where we can work together toward meaningful and lasting change.
