Great to meet you!

**Please see note at the end of the "What you can expect from me" section.

Hi! My name is Sam, and I received my graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2019 and have been practicing in various mental health settings since then. I currently am based in Florida and provide individual and couple's therapy sessions via a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform only. I have experience working with addiction, mood disorders, self-harm behaviors, depression and anxiety, anger, sexual development, body image, self-esteem, trauma, personality disorders, grief, and LGBTQIA+ issues. The majority of my clients fall within 16 years of age and 50, although I have worked with clients as young as 12 and as old as 80. If we discover that your needs are outside the scope of my practice, I will help you find another counselor who will be a better fit for you.

My approach to therapy

I am passionate about working with individuals of varying cultural backgrounds, gender and sexual identities, relationship dynamics, as well as neurodiverse individuals and those from other marginalized communities. Social justice and an understanding of systemic issues and their role in our mental and physical wellbeing is an integral part of my work. I attempt to challenge typical Westernized perspectives on mental health and utilize methods which have been validated through research to be helpful for people of a variety of backgrounds. Specifically, some of those methods include: Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness and Self-Compassion, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Inner Child work. Therapy with me will be client-led, with gentle challenging and guidance by me as the clinician. I believe that we are all the experts of our own lives, and my job is to simply help guide my clients in figuring out what feels best for them. Whether you have a specific goal in mind or just need a safe space to explore thoughts and feelings, I would be honored to hold space for you.

What you can expect from me

Our first few sessions will be laying groundwork and getting to know each other in order to build rapport and comfortability and give us a direction for sessions moving forward. Think of this time as a trial period to determine whether or not we feel we will be a good fit for one another. From there we will typically set some loose goals or specific (depending on your needs) and start to craft a plan to move in that direction. This process tends to look different for each individual, and I invite you to ask questions or share thoughts as we go along. I believe that therapy should be a collaborative process, and would like you to be as involved as possible in your own treatment.

I prefer that you use this link to schedule with me: https://www.therapyportal.com/p/szlmhc/

My schedule on Headway does not display an accurate view of my availability, as I use a different EHR for scheduling. If you do schedule a consultation call through Headway, I will likely email you first to confirm whether or not that space is available. If it is not, I will work with you to schedule a time that will work for both of us.
