Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Samar [“Sum-mer”], and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master’s degree in Counseling and Student Development from Kansas State University. I also work as a high school counselor, where I have extensive experience supporting adolescents and families through mental health concerns, relationships, academics, and life transitions.

I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, self-esteem, stress, relationship/family concerns, and major life changes. Coming from an immigrant family has shaped my understanding of how culture, family, identity, and expectations can influence our experiences. I value working with people from diverse backgrounds and approach those differences with curiosity rather than assumptions.

You don’t need to come to therapy knowing exactly what’s wrong or what you want to change, we can start wherever you are! I respect your boundaries, am comfortable with difficult conversations, and believe there’s room for humor and personality in therapy.

I am from the Kansas City area, am a dog mom, and loving meeting new people and seeing new places!

My approach to therapy

My approach is collaborative, curious, and tailored to you. I draw from cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, solution-focused, and humanistic approaches based on your individual needs.

Together, we may explore thoughts and behaviors keeping you stuck, how past experiences shape current patterns, and what we can do with that insight. This might include building new skills, setting boundaries or goals, or finding healthier ways to respond to yourself and your circumstances.

I won’t tell you what decisions to make, but I won’t leave you to figure everything out alone either. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, offer perspective, help you recognize patterns, and develop tools that make sense for your life.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what’s been going on, and what you’d like to change while exploring some of your background to understand the bigger picture.

You don’t need to prepare or have specific goals in mind. We can figure out where to start together. The first session is also your chance to get a feel for me, ask questions, and decide whether we’re a good fit.
