Great to meet you!

Raised internationally and having traveled across all seven continents, I have developed a profound understanding of how human emotion and behavior are expressed across different cultures. Love, pain, success, and responsibility can carry vastly different meanings depending on your cultural, religious, and familial context, and understanding those distinctions is essential to understanding who you are. My name is Dr. Samara Aldahwi, and I am a licensed psychotherapist in California holding a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology. Alongside my clinical work, I am also an entrepreneur operating within the technology and artificial intelligence space. I recognize that psychotherapy does not exist independently from the rest of your life. Everything from your race, education, and physical health to the family system that shaped you influences how you move through the world, and I will tailor our work to honor the full context of your lived experiences.

My approach to therapy

I fundamentally believe that therapy should equal change. Because of this, my approach is direct, highly involved, and guided by a strict no sugarcoating policy. While I will always listen to you, contain your experiences, and support you completely without judgment, I will also honestly tell you exactly what I see. I will challenge you when I believe a challenge serves your growth, and I will actively address what is difficult rather than allowing us to remain with what is simply comfortable. I tailor my methods entirely around your specific needs, taking into account what you have experienced and what you actively want to change. You will always have my unwavering support, but you will also always have my absolute honesty as we work to create the meaningful shifts you are seeking.

What you can expect from me

Stepping into therapy can feel incredibly vulnerable, but I want you to know that for our 50 minutes together, the world will revolve entirely around you. From our very first session, there is absolutely no performance required. You do not need to filter yourself, and you do not need to be polite, impressive, reasonable, or strong. You are invited to bring the parts of yourself you show the world alongside the parts you usually keep hidden. My responsibility as your therapist is to be strong enough to receive all of it, thoughtful enough to understand it, and honest enough to help you do something productive with it. Together, we will build a clear and honest foundation for the transformative work ahead.
