Great to meet you!

I'm Sand Garrison, LCSW, a Kentucky-licensed trauma therapist offering telehealth for kids (5+), teens, and adults. I earned my MSW from Spalding University and have spent over a decade in community mental health, child welfare, and crisis work.

I've supported survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence, people living with serious mental illness, and people re-entering the community after psychiatric hospitalization or incarceration. I've also worked with people facing housing insecurity, adults under guardianship, and kids, teens, and adults navigating gender identity and trans-affirming care. I don't judge, and I work respectfully with people in all kinds of relationships, including polyamorous and open ones.

I'm a queer, non-binary therapist. I'm antiracist, LGBTQ+ affirming, and an advocate for change and social justice. I'm currently accepting new clients.

My approach to therapy

Therapy with me starts with the relationship. Trust comes first, and then we shape the work around you, not the other way around. My approach is strengths-based and person-centered: I start with what's already working and build from there.

I also know your struggles don't happen in a vacuum. Systems, access, and circumstances beyond your control all play a part. I'll name that with you and help connect you with resources in every area of life.

I draw on CBT, TF-CBT, and motivational interviewing. With kids, I use play therapy techniques, so our sessions are active and rarely still.

What you can expect from me

We'll start by getting to know each other. I'll ask what brought you in and what you hope will change, and you can share as much or as little as you want. You set the pace. We'll also talk about goals, what your week-to-week sessions might look like, and any questions you have about telehealth.

For kids under 11, we'll check whether telehealth is a good fit, and a caregiver will help set up a quiet, safe space. You should leave feeling heard, with a clearer sense of next steps.
