Great to meet you!

I am Sandra MacSweeney, MHA, FNP-C, PMHNP-C, APRN, a dual-certified family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I lead BFF Clinic — Behavior Functional Focus, with care in the Sarasota and Port Charlotte area and in Volusia County, including New Smyrna Beach and DeLand. I have more than 20 years in healthcare.

I treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, sleep disorders, and related conditions, in person and by telehealth, including evenings and Saturdays. Visits are available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. My training covers both medication management and the medical issues that often sit underneath psychiatric symptoms: hormones, thyroid, nutrition, inflammation, and metabolic health.

My approach to therapy

Care is planned with you, not applied to you. I start with a full history, then use focused labs and a medical review when symptoms may have a physical driver. Treatment can include medication, lifestyle changes, and functional support such as sleep, nutrition, and hormone evaluation when it is relevant. Trauma history is asked about and paced, not forced.

I do not separate mental health from the rest of the body. A low mood, poor focus, or disrupted sleep can be psychiatric, medical, or both, and the plan should say which. Decisions are explained in plain language, and the regimen is adjusted to response, side effects, and what is realistic in your life.

What you can expect from me

The first visit is an evaluation, not a rushed prescription. We review what brought you in, prior treatment, medical history, sleep, and current medications or supplements. If labs or records would change the plan, we order or request them before locking in a regimen.

You should leave knowing the working impression, the options, and the next step, including whether medication, further testing, or a follow-up visit comes first. The visit is unhurried, confidential, and focused on a plan you can actually follow.
