Great to meet you!

Welcome! I’m Sandra Shields, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 31⁄2 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. I specialize in trauma-informed care and am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Trauma Play Therapy, with training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

My approach to therapy

My approach is rooted in systems theory, which means I look at how relationships and family dynamics influence emotional well-being. Often, patterns within families can shape how we relate to ourselves and others—impacting everything from personal identity to how we connect in romantic or familial relationships.

Whether you're seeking healing from trauma, support in your relationship, or guidance for your family, I offer a compassionate and collaborative space to explore your goals. I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.

What you can expect from me

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and my goal is to create a space that makes you feel as comfortable as possible. In our first session, we’ll simply get to know each other. I’ll ask questions to understand what’s bringing you in, what you’re hoping to work on, and a bit about your background.

We’ll talk about your goals and what you’d like your therapy outcome to be. It could be healing from past experiences, improving relationships as a couple or family, or just feeling more like yourself again. I will also share a little about how I work, including approaches like CPT, CBT, EMDR, Gottman Method for couples, and Trauma Play Therapy for children, so you know what to expect going forward.

Most importantly, this will be a space for you as an individual, a couple, or family to feel safe, supported heard, and respected from day one,
