Sara Mueller

My name is Sara Mueller. I began my licensed professional counselor journey after struggling for years with anxiety and depression. I have a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health from Midwestern State University. I completed my practicum and internship hours at an inpatient mental health facility and a local counseling agency specializing in children and families. I then became employed by the agency, working part-time. I continue to work at the agency on an as-needed basis and serve full-time as a counselor at a local high school. I have over 7 years of experience working with adolescents, families, and parents. I have a specific interest in working with offenders who have not been accused or convicted of any sexually-based offense.

I take an integrative, client-centered approach to therapy, recognizing that every person brings unique experiences, strengths, and goals to the counseling process. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all model, I tailor treatment to each client's individual needs by drawing from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, solution-focused techniques, and person-centered therapy.

I believe that meaningful change begins within a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. Together, we will explore challenges, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, build on your existing strengths, and develop practical tools to help you navigate life's difficulties.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns, trauma, life transitions, or simply seeking personal growth, my goal is to help you increase self-awareness, strengthen resilience, and create lasting, meaningful change. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I am committed to meeting you where you are while supporting you in moving toward a life that reflects your values, goals, and authentic self.

Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a foundation of trust. My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you feel comfortable sharing at your own pace.

During this session, we'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, relevant personal history, and what you hope to achieve through counseling. I'll ask questions to better understand your experiences, strengths, and challenges, and you'll have the opportunity to ask me questions about the therapy process, my approach, or anything else that's important to you.

Together, we'll begin identifying your goals and develop a plan that reflects your unique needs and priorities. There is no expectation to share everything in the first session or have all the answers. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive for you.

By the end of the session, you should have a clearer understanding of how we'll work together and what the next steps may look like. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, supported, and encouraged as you begin your journey toward growth and healing.
