Great to meet you!

I’m Sara Tarullo, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, specializing in working with adoptive parents, families, teens, and older adults. As an adoptive and foster mother, I deeply understand the complexities of trauma, neglect, and the lasting impact they can have on children, teens, and adults alike. My personal experiences navigating life with children from difficult backgrounds allows me to empathize with the unique challenges families face. I believe that, despite trauma being incredibly debilitating, with the right guidance and support, children and adults can not only heal but thrive.

My own children, despite their challenging behaviors, are incredible individuals—insightful, engaging, and natural leaders. They constantly remind me of the strength and potential that exists within every person, regardless of their past. I’m grateful to work with individuals who have experienced and overcome difficult times, and it is a privilege to help them uncover their own strengths, embrace their resilience, and move forward toward their goals.

With over 15 years of clinical experience, including 10 years as a middle school social worker and 5 years in non-profits providing individual, group, and family therapy, I have a wide range of experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. This has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the struggles that arise in families, especially those navigating trauma and transitions. I am committed to helping you through whatever challenges life brings, guiding you toward healing and growth.

My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that each person has the capacity for growth and healing, no matter where they start. I strive to create a safe, empathetic space where you can feel seen, heard, and understood. Together, we will work to identify the challenges you’re facing, understand the underlying causes, and develop tools to move toward healing and growth.

A bit about my approach to therapy

Approach to Therapy?

My approach to therapy is collaborative, empathetic, and strength-based. I believe that each person has the potential for growth and healing, regardless of their past experiences. Therapy is a partnership, where I work alongside you to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe and non-judgmental space. Together, we will identify the challenges you are facing, understand their underlying causes, and build on your strengths to create meaningful change.

I draw from several therapeutic modalities to tailor my approach to meet your unique needs. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Psychodynamic Therapy. My goal is to help you develop practical tools to manage life’s difficulties while also fostering a deeper understanding of yourself. Whether you are navigating trauma, managing family dynamics, or exploring life transitions, I will be here to provide support that empowers you to move forward with greater clarity, resilience, and peace.

Above all, I approach therapy with curiosity, empathy, and a deep respect for your individuality. Healing happens when we can acknowledge our struggles while also honoring the strengths and resources that we already possess.

What you can expect from our first session

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients can expect to take away a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationships, and their challenges. Through our work together, I hope to help you gain valuable tools to navigate life’s difficulties, manage difficult emotions, and build healthier, more fulfilling connections. You can expect to leave each session with practical strategies and coping mechanisms that you can apply to your everyday life.

In addition to practical tools, you will also gain a sense of empowerment as you recognize your own strengths and resilience. I believe that everyone has the potential to heal and grow, and my goal is to help you discover and cultivate that potential. By exploring your experiences in a safe and supportive space, you can expect to develop a stronger sense of self-awareness, self-compassion, and clarity in how you move forward in life.

Ultimately, clients can expect to feel heard, validated, and understood. My hope is that by the end of our work together, you will feel more equipped to face challenges, embrace change, and live in alignment with your authentic self.
