Great to meet you!

My name is Sarah Scott, I'm a licensed professional counselor specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence. I enjoy working with clients across the lifespan, from elementary school through adulthood, but particularly enjoy helping clients and their families navigate transitions in school and employment.

My approach to therapy

I use a lot of techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy in helping clients figure out what patterns keep recurring in their life and are keeping them stuck in unhappy situations, but I use it in a highly adapted and flexible way that can be personalized for each person. I rarely use set worksheets, unless that's a therapeutic style someone finds helpful. My practice is focused on helping folks clarify their values, set goals, and follow through on plans to breakout of cycles of frustration.

What you can expect from me

I like to jump right into things in the first session by talking about current challenges you would like help with, reviewing your history to better understand what led to this moment, then talking a little bit about goals and where you'd like to be in the future. I then like to talk a little more about what our therapeutic work might entail, answer any questions you have, and I often give instructions on how to keep a thought log on a given issue that might be helpful to discuss the next time we meet. I try to keep things energetic and positive, especially with my younger clients, but I want to meet people where they are at and help them feel seen and understood.
