Great to meet you!

Sarah A. Temel, MSEd, LPC EMDR Certified Therapist IFS Trained Therapist

Sarah has been working in the field of mental health and wellness for over ten years. Her formal education includes a double major in Psychology and Religious studies from Rutgers University, where she completed her degree with honors.

Sarah provides a grounding presence and ambiance of comfort in all of her sessions. Gentle and confident, she understands the deep importance of relationship and connection to the therapeutic process and enjoys bringing imagination, humor, and creativity into the healing work.

As a trauma therapist, Sarah creates an integrative bridge between the painful past and the person you are becoming. Trained in state of the art evidence-based approaches to trauma recovery such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Drama Therapy, and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Sarah offers her clients a highly specialized and comprehensive therapeutic experience.

A bit about my approach to therapy

“Parts Work” (Internal Family Systems)

All of our work is relational, even (especially!) the relationship dynamics in our inner world. Through the lens of Internal Family Systems (IFS), we are able to connect with, get to know, and help unburden the parts of ourselves that have carried too heavy a load for too long. As our secure internal relationships develop, we gain wisdom and clarity about the journey we have been on, restoring our sense of self and the parts of us that have dedicated themselves to keeping us safe.

EMDR Therapy

Without properly integrating our painful past experiences, life continues to replay the emotions, body sensations, and hurtful beliefs about ourselves. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy provides an opportunity to re-integrate the past and release the hold of those experiences on your present-day dynamics. Through EMDR we are also able to rebuild inner strength, calm, and security.

Expressive Arts & Drama Therapies

So often play, spontaneity, and imagination are disrupted by traumatic life experiences. Beginning to orient our minds and our bodies towards safety in the here and now is so crucial to healing. Expressive Arts Therapies (drama, art, movement) offer a pathway to recovering our spark of creativity, flexibility, and that embodied sense of safety.

Transpersonal & Spiritual Therapy

Whether vaguely curious or committed to a lifetime of spiritual growth, exploring your own personal beliefs about human life can be so fulfilling. Combining ancient spiritual wisdom with evidence based practices, therapy can be a wonderful setting to get to know one’s self in the greater context of the human experience. Transpersonal and Spiritual Therapies can add an additional layer of exploration for interested clients.

What you can expect from our first session

Sarah specializes in working with individuals who are feeling called to unearth the roots of their suffering and who may be feeling out of alignment or disconnected from their purpose. She helps her clients identify the source of their hurts and rebuild transformative relationships within. Approaching their underlying wounds with safety, space, and compassion, clients have the unique opportunity to reclaim their purpose, redefine their stories, and experience the freedom to grow into who they were always meant to be.
