Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Dr. Satia Kavanaugh Vanderloop. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience supporting adults facing a wide range of mental health concerns, including trauma, severe and persistent mental illness, substance use, emotional regulation, life transitions, and other personal challenges. I've worked in community mental health, vocational rehabilitation, and correctional settings, helping individuals from diverse backgrounds navigate complex experiences. My goal is to provide a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where you feel supported, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy is most effective when it is built on trust, respect, and a strong therapeutic relationship. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and direct, while recognizing that each person’s experiences, values, and goals are unique. I use an integrative approach that draws from evidence-based practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care. Together, we will explore your experiences, identify strengths, develop practical strategies, and work toward meaningful growth and lasting change.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, my goal is to create a comfortable, welcoming space where you feel heard and understood. We will take time to get to know you, explore what brings you to therapy, discuss your goals, and identify areas where you would like support. I will ask questions to better understand your experiences, strengths, and challenges while working collaboratively with you to develop a plan that fits your needs. My hope is that you leave your first session feeling respected, supported, and with a clearer sense of the path forward.
