Great to meet you!

I bring a unique perspective to counseling through my experience as both a mental health clinician and a career law enforcement professional. I earned my master’s degree in counseling and have spent years working within the first responder community, including extensive involvement in peer support, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), and responder wellness.

My clinical approach is practical, straightforward, and grounded in an understanding of what it is like to work in high-stress environments. I specialize in working with first responders, public safety professionals, and others who have been exposed to trauma, chronic stress, critical incidents, and the cumulative effects of demanding careers.

Areas I commonly work with include trauma and post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, occupational stress and burnout, relationship challenges, sleep difficulties, anger and irritability, and major life or career transitions. I also have a strong interest in resilience and post-traumatic growth—helping clients move beyond simply managing symptoms and toward building a healthier and more fulfilling life.

I understand that many people, particularly first responders, may be hesitant to seek counseling. My goal is to provide a confidential, comfortable environment where you can speak openly without feeling judged, analyzed, or misunderstood. Therapy with me is collaborative and direct. We focus on understanding what is happening, developing practical strategies, and making meaningful changes that carry over into your everyday life.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is straightforward, collaborative, and practical. I believe therapy works best when there is a genuine connection between the client and therapist, so I focus first on creating an environment where you can speak openly, be yourself, and have honest conversations without feeling judged.

I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I work to understand who you are, what you’ve experienced, and what you want to change, and then tailor therapy to your individual needs. Depending on the client, our work may focus on processing difficult experiences, understanding patterns and reactions, developing healthier coping strategies, improving relationships, or finding ways to regain a sense of purpose and balance.

I have a particular focus on trauma, chronic and occupational stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, and the cumulative impact of high-stress careers. My background in public safety also allows me to understand many of the cultural and professional challenges first responders face without requiring them to spend half the session explaining the job.

My style is conversational and direct. I’ll listen, but I’ll also ask questions, challenge you when appropriate, and help you look at situations from different perspectives. The goal isn’t simply to feel better during the session—it’s to develop insight, skills, and meaningful changes that improve your life outside of therapy.

What you can expect from me

The first session is really about getting to know each other and making sure you feel comfortable. I understand that walking into therapy—especially for the first time—can feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar, so I try to keep the process relaxed, conversational, and free of judgment.

We’ll talk about what brought you in, what has been going on in your life, and what you would like to be different. You don’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly what your goals are before we meet. Part of my job is helping you make sense of what you’re experiencing and identifying where we can begin.

I also want you to get a sense of who I am and how I work. Therapy should feel like a genuine conversation, not an interrogation or clinical checklist. There is no expectation that you share everything in the first session—we work at a pace that feels appropriate for you.

By the end of our first few sessions, my goal is for us to have a clear understanding of what you want to work on, what may be contributing to the challenges you're experiencing, and a practical direction for moving forward. Most importantly, I want you to leave feeling that you have a place where you can be honest, understood, and supported while doing meaningful work toward feeling and functioning better.
