Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Dr. Seema Dobin, a licensed psychologist in New Jersey. I provide virtual psychotherapy to adolescents, adults, and older adults who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, stressed, or unsure of how to move forward.

I enjoy helping people better understand themselves and the patterns that may be getting in the way of the life they want to live. I work with clients navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship and interpersonal challenges, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and other concerns that can make day-to-day life feel more difficult.

My background in both psychology and education has shaped the way I approach therapy. I believe that people are often doing the best they can with the tools they currently have—and that learning new tools can make a meaningful difference. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself, while also helping you make real, practical progress.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, collaborative, and person-centered, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychoeducation. I believe that understanding the connection between our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experiences can help us develop greater awareness and create meaningful change.

Therapy with me is not about simply talking about problems week after week. We’ll work together to understand what you’re experiencing, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical strategies that you can apply in your everyday life.

I tailor treatment to each individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Some sessions may focus on processing emotions and gaining insight, while others may be more skills-based and focused on problem-solving or practicing new ways of responding to challenging situations. I also believe therapy can be a place where you can be both serious and human. When appropriate, I’m happy to use a little humor along the way.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, we’ll get to know one another and talk about what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, relationships, strengths, and goals so that we can develop a fuller picture of what you’re experiencing.

Our work will be collaborative. We’ll identify what you would like to be different, establish goals that feel meaningful to you, and develop a treatment approach that fits your needs and circumstances.

As we move forward, I may offer practical strategies, exercises, or reflections to try between sessions. These are not meant to feel like “homework” for the sake of homework, but rather opportunities to practice and build on what we discuss together.

Most importantly, I want you to feel heard and understood while also feeling that therapy is helping you move forward. My hope is that, over time, you’ll develop a better understanding of yourself, build confidence in your ability to handle challenges, and feel more equipped to create the life you want.
