I believe that an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment begin with a deep understanding of the patient’s history. That’s why my initial psychiatric evaluation is comprehensive, covering psychiatric, medical, family, and substance use history. I take a holistic approach, considering cultural background, past trauma, childhood experiences, and lifestyle factors to create a treatment plan tailored to each individual.
Education is a key part of my practice. I ensure my patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and any concerns they may have about medications. In addition to medication management, I integrate brief therapy and provide guidance on lifestyle modifications such as sleep hygiene, nutrition, and substance use.
*My Treatment Philosophy:
I take a conservative and intentional approach to prescribing medication. My goal is to use the lowest effective dose necessary to manage symptoms while minimizing risks such as medication dependence or unwanted side effects. Not everyone experiencing psychiatric symptoms needs medication—therapy plays a crucial role in treatment, and I encourage most patients with significant mood symptoms to engage in therapy alongside or instead of medication.
I am particularly cautious when it comes to prescribing controlled substances. Addiction and medication dependence are serious concerns, and I avoid prescribing medications that may contribute to these risks unless absolutely necessary. Patients on controlled substances must agree to a controlled substance policy to ensure safe and appropriate treatment.
Additionally, I strive to avoid polypharmacy—when patients are on multiple medications without clear benefit. My goal is to simplify treatment whenever possible to improve outcomes and minimize side effects.
