Great to meet you!

Dr. Selman Manuel, DNP, MS, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-C, PMHNP-BC, CARN-AP, CCRN-K, FIAAN, is a quintuple board-certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in addiction medicine and psychiatric-mental health. With more than 20 years of clinical experience and nearly 12 years dedicated to treating substance use disorders, he provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for individuals struggling with opioid and alcohol addiction. Dr. Manuel offers medication treatment and harm-reduction approaches tailored to each patient’s needs, including Suboxone (buprenorphine), naltrexone, and Vivitrol. His treatment philosophy emphasizes safety, dignity, and long-term recovery. He understands that addiction is a medical condition—not a moral failure—and creates a supportive, judgment-free environment where patients feel respected and heard. Dual certified as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through both the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Dr. Manuel integrates addiction treatment with psychiatric care. He also treats depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, bipolar disorder, and co-occurring mental health conditions, ensuring patients receive coordinated and holistic care. Patients appreciate his thorough evaluations, thoughtful medication management, and clear communication. He takes time to educate patients about treatment options and works collaboratively to develop personalized care plans. Dr. Manuel is committed to helping individuals regain stability, improve their quality of life, and move forward with confidence and support.

What you can expect from me

A typical process when working with me includes: Initial Evaluation: A comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessment Review of mental health history, substance use history, medical conditions, and current medications Discussion of symptoms, stressors, lifestyle factors, and personal treatment goals Diagnostic clarification using evidence-based criteria Development of an individualized treatment plan Treatment Planning: Clear explanation of diagnosis and available treatment options Discussion of medication choices, benefits, risks, and alternatives Shared decision-making to determine the best approach for you For substance use disorders: evaluation for medication treatment such as Suboxone (buprenorphine), naltrexone, or Vivitrol, along with harm-reduction planning Ongoing Sessions: Medication management and symptom monitoring Supportive, solution-focused therapeutic interventions Relapse prevention strategies (when applicable) Adjustment of medications based on response and side effects Coordination of care with therapists or other providers when needed While my primary focus is psychiatric evaluation and medication management, I incorporate brief therapeutic techniques, psychoeducation, and coping strategies into each session. I also encourage therapy referrals when longer-term psychotherapy would be beneficial. My goal is to provide structured, evidence-based care while maintaining a supportive and collaborative partnership throughout your treatment journey.
