Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Shakira Beersingh, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I’m glad you’re here.

I earned my Master of Science degree in counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University, and I have 5 years of experience working in outpatient, inpatient, and private practice. My background includes supporting individuals through anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, substance use, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia disorder.

I specialize in helping young adults, adults, seniors, couples who are navigating life challenges and life transitions. I have a strong interest in helping clients navigate relationship challenges, emotional regulation, self-esteem, relapse prevention, and stress management.

My approach to therapy

I use a gentle combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and other techniques to help you make a sense of your feelings, your thoughts, and create real change. Together, we will look at the patterns that keep you stuck, build small steps that feel doable, and teach your mind how think positively. My goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply, build insight, develop coping skills, and help you equip yourself to be more aligned with who you are or who you want to be.

What you can expect from me

Starting therapy can feel a little nerve-wracking, and that’s completely okay. The first session is really just a conversation where we get to know each other and begin building a comfortable, supportive space together.

We’ll talk about what brought you in and what you’ve been going through, but there’s no pressure to share everything all at once. You can go at your own pace. I’ll meet you where you are. I may ask a few questions about your background and experiences so I can better understand how to support you.

By the end of the session, my hope is that you feel heard, at ease, and a little more hopeful about the path forward. We’ll begin to explore what you’d like to work on and how we can take those next steps together.
