Great to meet you!

Life can be challenging sometimes and being able to talk about those challenges is often helpful and reassuring. I take a direct, solution-focused approach to counseling in an accepting and supportive manner.

Trauma comes in many forms, and I especially enjoy helping others work through trauma to gain a better understanding of how that trauma may still affect them. Talking about difficult issues cannot change the past, but it CAN help to understand the past and look toward a better future.

Life changes are also difficult. Marriage, divorce, having children, changing employment, changing locations, and unexpected trauma are often difficult to navigate and adjust to. Talk therapy serves to help you better understand yourself and others. Understanding yourself means feeling better about yourself and feeling more in control of your choices and your life.

Everyone needs someone to talk to sometimes and there is no shame in asking for help.

My approach to therapy

I prefer a direct approach to problems and helping others find solutions to those problems. I will always be honest about what I think and I encourage others to be honest about themselves too. There is no solution to problems without an honest discussion of those problems.

What you can expect from me

The first session will be an information gathering session and a rough draft for a plan of action. With children, I often use part of the hour to simply sit on the floor and play a game so that we can get to know one another. A child feeling comfortable about coming back for another appointment is my primary consideration.

A good fit between client and therapist is perhaps one of the most important elements to consider for the therapy to be successful. I always want to know if you feel comfortable or uncomfortable, so that I can make adjustments if necessary. You are in charge of your own therapy. My goal is to a helpful guide in exploring what you want to say and understand.
