Great to meet you!

Dr. Shannon Sweitzer is a licensed psychologist working with children and teens ages 4 to 18, specializing in anxiety, depression, ADHD, emotional dysregulation and school-related stress. With nearly a decade of experience in independent schools, she understands the unique challenges students face in academic settings. Dr. Sweitzer is trained in SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) and holds Diplomate status from the American Board of School Neuropsychology. She offers extensive experience in both the therapeutic care and comprehensive neurodevelopmental evaluation of children and adolescents.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Sweitzer’s therapeutic approach is grounded in a client-centered framework, creating a warm, collaborative environment where children and adolescents feel valued and supported. She draws primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients develop practical skills for managing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In addition, she weaves in elements of Positive Psychology, such as cultivating optimism, gratitude, and resilience, to support overall well-being. Depending on each child’s unique needs, she thoughtfully incorporates other evidence-based strategies to ensure a flexible, personalized approach to care.

What you can expect from me

The first session is all about helping your child feel comfortable and building a strong foundation for our work together. Building rapport is a key part of the process, and I focus on creating a safe, welcoming space where they feel comfortable being themselves. I listen carefully to both the child and their caregivers to understand their strengths, challenges, and goals, and begin shaping a plan that feels meaningful and manageable.
