Great to meet you!

My name is Shanon, thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I have been with my husband for over a decade. I am a working mom of three: one infant biological son and two teen foster daughters that we are currently working to adopt. We have been licensed foster parents for the last 3 years and are well acquainted with the foster care system. I am a Christian and volunteer with high school students at my church. I love being creative and spending time in nature.

I have been working in the field of mental health since 2016. I specialize in teenagers, trauma and eating disorders. I also have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, and adjustment issues. I have experience in different mental health settings including residential, college campuses, and private practices.

My approach to therapy

I believe that counseling is most effective when it addresses the whole person as well as their environment. I work with clients to help them identify personal goals and together we will work to achieve these goals. I believe that not only should counseling address the symptoms but also treat the root cause. I am a more directive counselor. I hold space for clients and meet them where they are but at the end of the day I exist to move clients toward healing and sometimes that requires being challenged in order to grow. I also incorporate faith into sessions for the clients who feel that is important for their healing journey.

What you can expect from me

In an initial session clients can expect a lot of information gathering. I try to get a whole picture of the individual client as well as what elements are contributing to the presenting problems; doing so helps me to be the most effective clinician. We will also work on building rapport to have a healthy working relationship moving forward. Clients are welcome to ask questions about the therapeutic process and about me as their therapist.
