Great to meet you!

I'm Shara Ally, DNP, PMHNP-BC I provide evidence-based medication management for adults (18+) via telehealth. As an author and TEDx speaker, I translate complex research into clear, practical care plans that help my patients feel informed and supported.

I specialize in mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions (PTSD), adult ADHD, OCD, bipolar spectrum disorders, and women's mental health across the reproductive lifespan—including perinatal and postpartum mood disorders, PMDD, and menopausal transitions. My practice is medication-focused and highly collaborative, with education, skills coaching, and supportive check-ins integrated into every visit. I coordinate closely with therapists, primary care providers, OB-GYNs, and other clinicians to ensure cohesive, connected treatment.

When you work with me, you can expect a comprehensive evaluation reviewing your history, symptoms, prior treatments, and goals. I practice thoughtful prescribing with transparent discussion of options, benefits, and side effects so that every decision is truly shared. I use measurement-based care—structured symptom tracking—to guide adjustments and reduce trial-and-error. My whole-person approach integrates sleep, nutrition, movement, and stress management when relevant, with streamlined access through secure telehealth and clear after-visit summaries.

My style is warm, direct, and person-centered, grounded in shared decision-making. My care is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and rooted in current clinical evidence. Beyond my clinical practice, I serve as a nurse educator and academic mentor, shaping future psychiatric clinicians through evidence-based teaching. An international fellowship in India further enriched my global perspective through research and teaching in hospital and university settings.

My approach to therapy

My care philosophy is simple yet comprehensive: treat every person with dignity, deliver evidence-based interventions, and maintain a steadfast belief in the real possibilities of healing and growth. While diagnoses and medications matter, the relationship we build and the hope we nurture together are equally vital.

I practice compassionate psychiatry—care that is clinically excellent and deeply attuned to your emotional needs. I take time to genuinely understand your situation, not simply checking diagnostic boxes, but exploring how mental health challenges affect your daily life, relationships, and sense of self.

I believe in empowering you through education and collaborative decision-making. I'll explain psychiatric concepts in accessible language, discuss treatment options thoroughly, and help you make choices that reflect your values and preferences. Whether addressing medication or lifestyle modifications, you'll understand the reasoning behind every recommendation and have a genuine voice in each decision we make.

I am skilled in psychopharmacology and will recommend medication when meaningful benefit is expected, but I'm equally committed to non-medication approaches. Mindfulness practices, sleep hygiene, exercise, nutrition, and stress management all play important roles in mental wellness, and we will address these areas holistically.

I recognize that mental health doesn't exist in isolation. Social connections, work satisfaction, physical health, financial stability, and sense of purpose all shape psychological wellbeing, and I approach care with those profound interconnections fully in mind.

Most importantly, I am committed to being a steady, supportive presence throughout your journey—working together toward sustainable wellness, symptom relief, and the meaningful life you deserve. You are not simply a patient to me; you are a whole person worthy of care that fully rises to meet the complexity of who you are.

What you can expect from me

Your first appointment will be a safe, welcoming space where we lay the groundwork for effective treatment together. I understand that discussing mental health challenges can feel daunting, and I will do everything possible to ensure your comfort. We will begin wherever feels most natural—whether describing current symptoms or sharing your background first.

We will explore what you are experiencing: depression, anxiety, racing thoughts, emotional shifts, panic episodes, concentration difficulties, changes in sleep or appetite, diminished energy, or distressing thoughts. I will ask how these symptoms show up in daily life—at work, within relationships, in self-care, and in your ability to find enjoyment. We will look at when difficulties began, possible triggers, whether they are intensifying, and what you have already tried.

Your psychiatric history offers important context. I will ask about past diagnoses, previous treatment, and medications used—including dosage, duration, effectiveness, side effects, and reasons for discontinuing. Family mental health history also plays a role, as genetics significantly influence treatment outcomes. We will discuss lifestyle factors: sleep, nutrition, physical activity, stress levels, and use of alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, or other substances.

If medication appears beneficial, I will explain your options clearly and thoroughly, taking into account the biological, psychological, and social factors shaping your wellbeing. You will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout.

By our session's end, you will leave with a clear diagnosis, a personalized treatment plan, and the assurance of knowing you have a devoted partner supporting your journey. My goal from this very first appointment is to make certain you never feel alone in navigating your mental health. Reaching out takes real courage—and that courage is met here with genuine care and expertise.
