Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Shari. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with more than 27 years of clinical experience in both private practice and medical settings. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of helping individuals navigate some of life's most difficult experiences, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, serious illness, caregiver stress, and significant life transitions.

I believe every person has inherent worth that exists beyond their struggles, diagnoses, or life circumstances. My perspective is grounded in mercy and grace, recognizing dignity beyond dysfunction, strength alongside suffering, and hope even in life's most difficult seasons. These beliefs shape how I see people and guide the way I approach counseling.

My clinical background includes extensive experience supporting individuals and families facing serious illness, loss, uncertainty, and complex life circumstances. I understand that healing is not always a straight path, and I believe everyone deserves a space where they can be understood without judgment and supported with compassion.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, client-centered, trauma-informed, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I believe meaningful change happens within a therapeutic relationship built on trust, compassion, and genuine understanding.

I recognize that many of the ways we cope with anxiety, trauma, grief, and life's challenges began as creative ways to survive difficult circumstances. Sometimes the very strategies that once helped us get through difficult experiences no longer serve us well. Rather than defining you by your symptoms or past experiences, I work to understand your unique story, recognize the resilience that has carried you this far, and help you develop healthier patterns that support lasting growth.

I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, trauma-informed interventions, and expressive therapies. I particularly enjoy incorporating creative, hands-on approaches that help clients explore emotions, process experiences, and discover insights that may be difficult to access through conversation alone.

I also recognize that spirituality can be an important source of meaning, hope, and resilience. I view spirituality as distinct from religion and welcome its exploration in therapy when it is meaningful to you. Whether you identify as religious, spiritual, both, or neither, your beliefs and values will be respected.

What you can expect from me

Beginning therapy can feel intimidating, especially when you are navigating something difficult or have spent a long time trying to manage things on your own. My goal is to make our first session a comfortable, welcoming space where you feel heard, respected, and accepted just as you are.

Our first meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and for me to understand what has brought you to therapy. We will explore what has been happening in your life, what feels most challenging, and what you hope might change. You don't need to have everything figured out or know exactly where to begin. We will work through that together.

As we get to know one another, we will begin identifying your strengths, exploring patterns that may be contributing to your struggles, and developing goals that feel meaningful and realistic. I bring clinical experience and therapeutic tools to our work, but I also recognize that you are the expert on your own life. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

My hope is that you leave our sessions feeling understood, with a greater sense of clarity, practical tools to navigate life's challenges, and renewed confidence in your ability to move forward.
