Great to meet you!

I am Sharon Atwood, a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Adult Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of dedicated clinical experience. I hold active, unrestricted licenses in Florida, New York, California, and Idaho, and I specialize in serving adults aged 18 and older through both telehealth and outpatient settings.

My educational foundation reflects a lifelong commitment to excellence. I earned my Associate in Science and Diploma in Nursing before completing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology magna cum laude from Kean University. I then pursued my Master of Science in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University and a Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric-Mental Health from the University of Miami, both achieved summa cum laude. I maintain dual board certifications through ANCC and AANP, and I am a proud member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and the California Association of Nurse Practitioners.

My clinical background spans diverse settings, including adult and geriatric primary care, inpatient psychiatry, crisis intervention, hospital consultation, assisted living environments, and outpatient psychiatric medication management. This breadth of experience equips me to confidently address a wide range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, OCD, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, sleep disturbances, and complex co-occurring presentations. I welcome individuals with treatment-resistant symptoms.

My approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and rooted in genuine partnership. I combine psychiatric medication management with integrative health practices, examining how sleep, nutrition, exercise, stress, and social connection shape your overall wellbeing. I believe that meaningful progress flourishes when expert care is paired with healthy lifestyle.

My approach to therapy

My philosophy of care rests on authentic partnership, clinical precision, and a strong belief that enduring wellness grows when skilled psychiatric treatment unites with sound lifestyle habits and a fitting sense of humor. With more than a decade of varied clinical experience spanning adult and geriatric primary care, inpatient psychiatry, crisis response, and outpatient medication management, I bring both breadth and confidence to every person I am privileged to serve.

My approach is collaborative, rooted in evidence, and aimed at helping you reach dependable steadiness in your daily life. I invest real time in understanding your full picture, your symptoms, history, natural strengths, everyday patterns, and personal aspirations, because quality care must respect the whole person, at a pace that feels right for you, rather than a label standing alone.

When it comes to medication management, I am meticulous and forthright. I walk you through each available option, explain how different medications work, set grounded expectations for improvement, and discuss potential side effects openly. I uphold informed consent and shared decision-making, making sure your preferences and comfort consistently guide every choice we reach together. I monitor your progress attentively, revise our approach as life shifts, and stay available between visits to address concerns as they arise, so you are not left waiting.

My practice integrates wellness-centered principles, weighing how rest, nutrition, physical movement, stress, and meaningful social bonds influence your mental health alongside psychiatric care. I partner with your other providers when teamwork improves your results, ensuring unified and thorough support.

My purpose is helping you ease symptoms, reclaim balance, and reconnect with a life that feels genuinely and unmistakably yours. It is a true privilege to walk alongside you as you reclaim your health, your hope, and your life.

What you can expect from me

Your first visit is really about establishing a genuine connection and setting the stage for our ongoing work together. Holding dual certifications as both a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Adult Nurse Practitioner, plus more than ten years of hands-on clinical practice, I bring real depth and assurance to every assessment I conduct. This appointment runs longer than typical follow-ups, giving us plenty of time for a meaningful conversation and complete understanding of what's going on with you.

We'll start by discussing whatever led you to seek help and how these issues are interrupting your normal life, relationships, career, sleep, and general functioning. I work with adults eighteen and up dealing with a broad array of concerns, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, OCD, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, sleep problems, and complicated overlapping conditions. However complex your background might be, I'm well-prepared to meet you right where you are.

I'll review your psychiatric history with you, including any previous diagnoses, treatments attempted, and medications tried, figuring out together what worked, what didn't, and any negative side effects you dealt with. We'll also cover your medical background, medications you're currently on, family psychiatric patterns, and lifestyle aspects like sleep, diet, exercise, and stress levels.

Should medication management become part of what we do together, I'll explain your options using clear, easy-to-understand terms, covering how each medication functions, realistic timeframes for noticing changes, possible side effects, and how we'll track your progress as a team.

You'll leave our session with a treatment plan built specifically for you and the confidence that you have a genuinely invested partner working alongside you toward greater stability and improved wellbeing in your everyday life.
