Sharon Mcgee

I have been in MH for over 10 years, I have worked with children and adolescents, but primarily focus on adults, particularly women. In particular, I work with women with trauma from family of origin relationships or romantic relationships.

I utilize include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy SAFE EMDR, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I have been intensely trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Internal Family Systems-Informed (IFS-informed).

The most important feature in any therapeutic environment is the therapeutic relationship. The significance of this relationship cannot be taken lightly and finding a good fit is paramount. I firmly believe that providing emotional safety led with empathy is the cornerstone of my practice. Feeling seen, heard, and validated by another person can help us heal from difficult challenges in life. I also think having a good sense of humor when appropriate is essential to the therapeutic process.

I work best with clients who have trauma experiences in their life & as a result tend to become people pleasers to avoid conflict. I believe doing work in boundaries, emotional regulation, self-compassion, & communicating our needs & wants to others is essential in learning to be authentic. Trauma work is effective in helping to heal those tendencies that have been a part of our life for a long time. Additionally, it can assist in building the relationships and life we have been longing for.
