Shawne Steiger

I have thirty years of experience helping people to work through trauma and overcome challenging circumstances. I am trained in several Evidence Based Therapies, but I am also well grounded in psychodynamic approaches that focus on helping people work through childhood trauma and neglect and improve their relationships. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them decide what they want to change and determine the best approach to make that happen.

I will often focus on the problematic coping skills you developed to reduce anxiety in your life. Those coping skills served a very important purpose at some time in your life, but may now be making your relationships and your life much harder than it needs to be. I will work with you to determine what you want to change in your life and then help you identify the unconscious thoughts and behaviors that may be stopping you from making that change.

I will explain why I am suggesting a certain approach, so you can decide for yourself if that makes sense. My goal is to help you develop more flexibility in how you approach life. We can't change what we aren't aware of. My job is to help you recognize the behaviors and thought patterns that keep you from improving your life and relationships. Your job is to decide if you want to change those patterns. Then we work together to make those changes happen.
