Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Shawnta Crayton, a dual-certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. My background spans from CNA to NP, giving me a well-rounded, patient-centered perspective on care. I’m passionate about creating a non-judgmental space where you feel safe, heard, respected, and supported in your mental health journey. My approach focuses on collaboration, education, and helping you become the best version of yourself—from the inside out.

My approach to therapy

My approach to providing care is person-centered and holistic, meaning I focus on the individual’s unique needs, preferences, values, and goals rather than just their condition or circumstances. I consider the whole person, including physical, emotional, social, and cultural or spiritual factors, to ensure care is well-rounded and meaningful.

I also prioritize active involvement, encouraging individuals to participate in decisions about their care. By fostering open communication and mutual respect, I aim to support autonomy, build trust, and deliver care that is both effective and aligned with what matters most to the person.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect the first session to be focused on understanding them—not rushing into solutions.

I usually start by getting a sense of what brought you in, what you’re hoping to get out of working together, and any immediate concerns you want to address. From there, I’ll ask some guiding questions to learn more about your background, current situation, and what matters most to you. This helps me see the bigger picture, not just a single issue.

It’s also a chance for you to get a feel for how I work. I aim to create a space that feels respectful, collaborative, and straightforward. You won’t be talked at or judged—this is a conversation, and you’re encouraged to share at your own pace. If something feels unclear or uncomfortable, you can say so.

We’ll usually spend part of the session clarifying your goals and what you’d like to focus on moving forward. If it makes sense, we may begin outlining a plan or identifying a few practical next steps, but there’s no pressure to have everything figured out right away.

By the end of the first session, you can expect to have:

  • A clearer sense of your priorities
  • An understanding of how we might work together
  • Initial direction or next steps (if you’re ready for that)
