Great to meet you!

Hello, I'm Sheila, a licensed marriage and family therapist with advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT is based in attachment science, which I apply to my work with couples and individuals. As an EFT therapist, my goal is to help you or you and your partner identify and address the places where you feel stuck and to reduce the gap between the life you are currently living and the life that you are longing to live.

I hold two Masters of Science degrees from California State University, Fullerton. My masters in Gerontology focused on how individuals transition across the adult lifespan. My Masters in Counseling (MFT) provided the theoretical and practical training needed to be an effective Marriage and Family Therapist. I hold MFT licenses in California (CA #93798), Tennessee (TN #1495), and Kentucky (KY #262694).

As a therapist, I have worked for over 13 years with diverse populations and cultures in a variety of therapeutic settings, promoting personal empowerment and emotional resilience, relational growth across individual, couple, and family contexts and relationship counseling. I apply EFT and other expressive modalities to cultivate insight, regulation, and sustainable growth and wellbeing

Whether working with an individual or a couple, I specialize in helping clients to navigate and transform the emotional complexities, thoughts and behavioral patterns stemming from and related to their relational worlds and life experiences.

My approach to therapy

My style in working with clients is collaborative, reflective and empathic, dedicated to helping you to feel truly heard and understood as we navigate these life and relational challenges together.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in attachment science, which will provide the experiential framework of our work together. EFT is an evidenced-based approach that focuses on the power of emotion to promote profound and lasting change. By tracking underlying emotional processes, and how those processes interact with thoughts and drive behaviors, we can come to understand the dynamics causing distress and how to shift into a more resilient sense of self with more fulfilling personal and interpersonal relationships.

For individuals, EFT helps to "harness the potency of emotion to transform trauma, quell anxiety, and dim the darkness of depression" (Johnson & Campbell, 2025), thus reducing reactivity and numbing while establishing a platform for ongoing growth and connection.

For couples, EFT helps to break negative patterns and cycles that are pushing the couple apart and to foster a more secure relationship bond with a deeper sense of belonging and greater intimacy.

What you can expect from me

I provide a warm, relational environment, acting as an active and engaged process consultant and not a passive observer. In our first session I will want to hear about you, to gain an understanding of what you are going through and what you hope to gain from the counseling experience.

I would also like to share a little bit about myself and my approach to working with clients and to answer any questions you might have!
