Great to meet you!

Shelby Murphy, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Shelby Murphy is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over six years of experience supporting both children and adults through a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges. She specializes in play therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), offering a warm, client-centered approach that helps individuals heal, grow, and thrive.

Whether working with a child, teen, or adult, Shelby is passionate about helping clients build resilience and find meaning through life’s difficult moments. Outside of the therapy room, she enjoys spending time with her family in the great outdoors—especially hunting, fishing, and making the most of nature together.

My approach to therapy

Shelby works extensively with children using play therapy to help them express emotions and develop healthy coping skills. Her areas of expertise with children include anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, trauma, grief, and relationship difficulties.

In her work with adults, Shelby offers a safe and nonjudgmental space to explore life transitions, relationship challenges, stress, trauma, grief, anxiety, and depression. She draws on evidence-based practices to support personal growth, emotional wellness, and stronger connections in everyday life.

What you can expect from me

In my first session with a client as a counselor, setting clear goals and creating a supportive environment is key for establishing trust and ensuring a productive therapeutic relationship. Here is how I approach this: establish safe and trusting environment, initial assessment and exploration of the client needs, setting collaborative goals, discuss the counseling process, exploring and clarifying client motivation, managing expectations and normalizing the process.
