Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Shelly-Ann Mickens, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience supporting adults through anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, stress, and major life transitions. I’ve worked with people from diverse backgrounds in private practice, higher education, career counseling, and EAP settings, giving me a broad understanding of the different challenges that can affect your emotional well-being and everyday life. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply ready for something to change, I’m here to help

I believe therapy should feel comfortable, supportive, and personal to you. I create a warm space where you can be honest about what you’re experiencing without judgment, while also bringing lightheartedness and humor when appropriate. Together, we’ll focus on understanding what’s going on, building on your strengths, and finding practical ways to help you feel more confident, balanced, and capable of moving forward.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, relaxed, compassionate, and solution-focused. I believe you deserve a space where you can slow down, reflect, and better understand yourself without feeling judged or pressured. I draw from CBT, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, trauma-focused approaches, and problem-solving techniques to help you understand the connection between your experiences, thoughts, emotions, and relationships

We’ll work together to identify what may be keeping you stuck while focusing on realistic steps that can create meaningful change. I’ll support you with compassion and encouragement while helping you recognize your strengths and build practical tools for everyday life. I also believe there is room for lightheartedness and humor in therapy when it feels right, because healing doesn’t always have to feel heavy.

What you can expect from me

Starting therapy can feel uncertain, especially if you’re not quite sure how to explain what you need. Our first session is a chance to get to know each other and talk openly about what brought you to therapy, how it’s affecting your life, and what you’d like support with. You can share at your own pace, and there’s no expectation that you have everything figured out

Together, we’ll begin identifying what you’d like to work on and what kind of support would feel most helpful to you. We’ll use that conversation to create a direction for therapy that feels realistic and personalized. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, understood, and hopeful that you’ve found someone who can help you move forward.
